RuGadget is a laboratory for smart electronics.
We help to create new products and improve existed ones, automate production and business-processes. We develop solutions for retail business, healthcare, banks and other industries.
Our interests are: Internet of Things, wearable electronics, personal gadgets and customized devices.

Development of Electronic Modules

Current devices consist of a number of elements: microprocessors, sensors, wireless and wired receiver/transmitters, actuation mechanisms.

We take up the development of these modules - think over the circuit design, develop printed circuit-boards, prototype and tune up electronic modules.

Modular Programming

To make all parts of a device work they should be activated. We create microcode software and programming support for our products.

When developing modern devices it is important to choose the best processor architecture. We work with a range of processor architectures starting with micro-consuming STM8, MSP430, CC2540 to high-processing ARM, x86, and FPGA, and use low-level weavings and Linux/Android/Windows operational systems on target devices.

Industrial Design and Engineering

Design of a product is created by two specialists: industrial designer and design engineer.

An industrial designer analyzes how people will use the product. He conceives the control elements, and chooses the materials, which the device will be manufactured from.

A design engineer turns the industrial designer’s concept into reality. He is responsible for function and usability of the device, its correspondence to operational conditions and preparation for mass production.

Serial Production Preparation

Our goal is to create mass products. When starting to develop such products it is important to decide how and where they will be produced.

From the very start, we consider time and cash expenditures for production. We design a device to facilitate mass production of all its components, we select suppliers and contractors taking into consideration logistics and component cost.

How we are working

01 Understanding of a Problem

Initially we meet with a client to ensure we are solving the right challenge: we collect information about a product and about a client’s business, discuss possible limitations and options. After that, we prepare a detailed quotation: time schedule, description of device components and prior evaluation of product production cost.

Purpose: to understand a client’s problem, describe options for its solving.

Result: detailed description of a problem, time schedule, and prior calculation of product cost.

02 Concept-design

We decide on the general appearance of the device: what modules it will consist of, and how they will interact. Industrial designer and design engineer create a concept-design – drawings, sketches, 3D modules of the device. The circuit engineer designs a device circuit and describes the modules. The embedded software engineer considers software architecture of the device.

Purpose: decide what modules the device will consist of and develop its appearance.

Result: a block diagram of device modules, description of functional units, concept of device appearance.

03 Model

We specify a list of components and adjust the functions of the modules, create minor release version of the product without packaging. At this stage we can understand how the device operates and solves the problem, it allows us to optimize the components.

Purpose: Analyze the interaction of the modules, confirm product cost.

Result: Working model device and a list of device components.

04 Prototype

We work on the appearance of a product – install modules of the device into the package. At this stage, a client receives a working product that can be tested in real conditions: shown to focus group, presented at an exhibition or to investors.

As a rule, at this stage we print the package on 3D-printer. It gives the possibility to debug product form-factor and mechanics without additional costs.

Purpose: show off product appearance, work in real conditions, and test the device design.

Result: a packaged, 3D printed device

05 Trial Sample

We produce a trial sample. This packaged device is made of the materials that will be used in a final product. At this stage, you become fully aware of a future product. For this reason, a trial sample is usually used for product trials and certification.

Purpose: trials and certification.

Result: a device in a package made of metal, plastic, and glass.

06 Preproduction Sample

We create one more sample of the product – a preproduction sample. We need this stage to reduce serial production cost of the product. We optimize device components, develop design documentation for manufacturing plants and for service centers.

Purpose: reduction of serial production cost.

Result: final version of the product, design documentation for service production and maintenance.
